Dirty Harry (1971)

Harry Callahan is a rough and tough San Francisco streamer nicknamed "Dirty Harry". In this action classic, you can see why - and also why Clint Eastwood has earned his reputation as a first-rate film star and filmmaker.

A sniper (Andrew Robinson), who calls himself Scorpio, has committed two murders and is holding the entire town hostage, threatening to strike again. Harry will probably get a frame on him... one way or another - regardless of what the "system" prescribes.

By filming on location, director Don Siegel made "The Village by the Bay" a central part of Dirty Harry, and this practice was continued in the four sequels. Many years after its premiere, the original is still one of the most exciting police thrillers ever made.

Magnum Force - Dirty Harry Goes Wild (1973)

In the first sequel to the successful police action film, Dirty Harry - which, by the way, definitively established that Clint Eastwood had returned from Spaghettiland to Hollywood to stay - Harry has got a new partner (Felton Perry), and together with him he investigates a series of murders of criminals who have managed to cheat the justice system. His boss (Hal Holbrook) isn't wild about Harry's methods, including the excessive use of his .44 Magnum revolver.

The Enforcer - Dirty Harry Cleans Up (1976)

The third film in the Dirty Harry series takes place as usual in San Francisco and again presents Clint Eastwood in the inexhaustible role of "the man with the magnum revolver" and with the low tolerance threshold for the rougher part of the city's criminals. In an interesting role as his new partner, the female police inspector Kate Moore, a young and slender Tyne Daly is seen, who today plays a somewhat rounder character in the TV series Judging Amy.

Sudden Impact - Dirty Harry Returns (1983)

The fourth out of five Dirty Harry films is directed by Clint Eastwood himself. As with the other three sequels, this is solid entertainment, which cannot live up to Don Siegel's debut in either style or humor. In Sudden Impact, a vicious serial killer is on the loose in San Francisco, and the police follow a trail that leads to a small town on the Pacific coast. Harry Callahan and his magnum revolver take the matter up.

The Dead Pool - Dirty Harry in the Game of Death (1988)

Police inspector Henry "Dirty Harry" Callahan is played in the "real" way only by Clint Eastwood, even though this fifth and last film in the series is 17 years behind the first. This time, Harry investigates a strange bet out in town, which apparently involves the bettors guessing which famous person will be murdered next. Harry discovers that he himself is on the list of possible victims.
