The extraordinary life of legendary musician Marianne Faithfull, told by herself, flanked by George MacKay and Tilda Swinton in a deeply original film by the directorial duo behind ‘Nick Cave: 20,000 Days on Earth’.
Faithfull embodies a life of contrasts. The convent schoolgirl who married as a teenager. One of the ultimate it-girls of the 60s and Mick Jagger’s partner. Pop singer, folk singer, new wave icon, drug addict and a one-woman army against the misogynistic male gaze. In the fictional Ministry Against Oblivion – a Terry Gilliam-like world of screens and devices led by Tilda Swinton – we meet a real, unscripted Marianne Faithfull, who guides us through the singer’s amazing life and career. And as the crowning glory, a final duet between Faithfull and her good friend Nick Cave. It turns out to be her last performance.
