The Heirs is a Danish television series from DR1. The series was broadcast starting on January 1, 2014, and it has a script by Maya Ilsøe and direction by, among others, the Swedish Pernilla August.

SEASON 1 The Heirs takes place in and around the country house in southern Funen, which has formed the framework for the life and work of the internationally renowned artist Veronika Grønnegaard. The series follows Veronika's four adult children, whose remarkable upbringing has influenced their lives in very different ways. They have lived scattered all over the world until Veronika dies, but come together to settle her inheritance. The three eldest, Gro, Frederik and Emil, do not know Veronika's adopted daughter Signe.

SEASON 2 The second season starts by focusing on the family's attempt to save Emil from prison. To finance this, Gro creates a forgery of one of his mother's works of art, which was not completed, and art connoisseurs recognize it as one of Veronika's most significant works. One critic's skepticism about this falls to the ground when Thomas, who is Gro's father and lives like a 1960s hippie, declares that he has seen Veronika create the work. Emil is released and returns home.

SEASON 3 The third season starts with an artist collective, of which Hannah is a member, performing a happening with Gro as a mentor. As a follow-up, Hannah goes to Greenland, where she dies in an accident. Frederik returns home from the USA, more burned out than before, and new conflicts between the four siblings and their surroundings arise. Signe engages in organic farming together with a Swedish biodynamicist, Karin, (played by Pernilla August), but this creates conflict with a conventional farmer, (played by Peter Gantzler).
