Trapped by the past
When former gangster Carlito Brigante (Al Pacino) escapes from prison after five years, he has already become a legend in the underworld. However, he decides to put his past behind him and realize a long-cherished dream - to start a small legitimate business in the Bahamas together with the woman he loves, Gail (Penelope Ann Miller). 
David Kleinfeld (Sean Penn), who is Carlito's unreliable and shady lawyer, pesters Carlito to do him a "little" favor before he leaves. And Carlito's code of honor demands that he pay his debt to the lawyer who got him out of prison - he goes against Gail's pleas. 
But Carlito is also prepared for a return trip: The tickets are bought, the money is put in the suitcase and paradise is waiting ahead, when only this little service is out of the world... because if Carlito knows anything, then it is that a service can kill one faster than a bullet.

Carlito's Way is a strong and passionate film that reunites Al Pacino with Scarface director Brian De Palma.
